Because all of this happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Holmesy. You always use the past tense when talking about Star Wars. Duh.

I was named after two great works; a French art film from the early 2000’s and Harper Lee’s infamous To Kill a Mockingbird. My name is Amelie Scout. I suppose from that you’d expect at least a slight degree of worldliness. I’m afraid to tell you that I’ve only recently watched Amélie, and am yet to read anything of Harper Lee.
Instead of becoming familiar with these works, I spend my time humming the power ballads of Whitesnake, reading up on sustainability and every known insta-love to young adults. Occasionally you’ll find me spitting out some random Harry Potter facts and if you know me, you know I will primarily judge you on your Hogwarts House. Slytherin here, by the way, we’re not all villains! If you want to find me, I’ll be curled up binging the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Friends on my laptop.
By this point you’ve figured out I’m very much so a nerd. I first disappeared into the world of fiction when I was a baby, dad set me up in front of the Lord of the Rings massive battle scene, what a childhood. I decided to move there when I got sick. Fiction is easier than reality so, I escaped my reality. I fought Ares with Wonder Woman, cried over breakups with Rory and debated whether Ross and Rachel were on a ‘break’.
Everything changed when I got sick, but ‘when I got sick’ is such a broad term. I’d always had health issues, just one day they intensified and turned into the first of long hospital stays. From then on everything went to hell and it dominated my life. What started as continence issues escalated into impaired kidney function, repeated infections and the development of chronic pain. The issue with chronic illness is that it is a long-lasting illness that you must cater to the demands of. So now I try to balance the life of someone with chronic illness to that of a teenager. Keyword ‘try’.
